The Heritage Hamilton Foundation was formed in 1977 by a group of Hamiltonians concerned about the rapid and continuing loss of our built heritage and prepared to act to assist its preservation.

From its earliest days, the Foundation has worked to ensure that Hamilton’s historic buildings, streetscapes, landmarks, and neighbourhoods are recognized as an essential part of the city’s identity. Heritage is more than the buildings themselves; it is the record of the people, communities, businesses, and events that have shaped Hamilton over generations. Preserving these places allows present and future residents to understand where the city has come from while contributing to a stronger sense of belonging and continuity.

Hamilton has experienced significant growth and transformation since the Foundation was established.
